Lamborn endorses Tom Tancredo for Governor

By Congressman Doug Lamborn
October 22nd, 2010

"I am here today to announce my support for Tom Tancredo for Governor of our great state of Colorado.  After giving this decision much thought and prayer, I have concluded Tom is the only electable conservative candidate for governor. That means he’s the only candidate who can turn our state around and put us back on the path to prosperity.  I make this endorsement for the good of the state, putting my party loyalties aside. I ask for, and plead for, my fellow Republicans to do the same, and to vote for Tom Tancredo.

Our state has suffered serious hardship over the past four years under Governor Ritter’s watch due to flawed policies and broken promises. While taxes have increased, Colorado has lost tens of thousands of jobs.  As Mayor of Denver, John Hickenlooper has followed in the governor's footsteps with tax-increasing measures. Upwards of 40,000 jobs have been lost in Denver while he has been in office. We cannot let poor governance such as that continue to lead our state down the wrong path.

It is absolutely essential that Coloradans elect a new governor who can put a stop to the tax-and-spend culture that has been imposed by Ritter, Hickenlooper, and the rest of the Democrats. We must elect a strong conservative candidate who will keep taxes low, who will carefully cut unnecessary spending, and who will grow the Colorado economy. And, we need a governor who will appoint conservative judges who respect the rule of law.  Tom has pledged to do just that.

I call on my fellow conservatives and Republicans in El Paso County, in the Fifth Congressional District, and across the state and urge them to join me in supporting Tom Tancredo for governor.  I had been asked earlier today to announce that State Senator Bill Cadman of Colorado Springs likewise has thrown his support to Tom Tancredo. Tom’s dedication to the people of Colorado, to their future prosperity, and to the cause of freedom is without question.

I served with Tom in Congress for two years, where we agreed on about 99 percent of our votes. He is a true conservative.

These are extraordinary times and they call for extraordinary measures.  I don’t expect ever again to ask anyone to support a candidate outside my party, but this is a unique situation. That is why I am asking the people of Colorado to help me elect Tom Tancredo as Colorado's next governor."

Lamborn visits Buena Vista

"Rep. Doug Lamborn said individuals should get the same health insurance tax breaks businesses get.

Now completing his second two-year term, the Colorado Springs 5th District Republican told a Buena Vista audience Wednesday if businesses can deduct the cost of insurance for their employees, individuals should be able to get a similar tax break.

Lamborn said he is opposed to voting on massive bills such as the recent health care package approved earlier this year where neither members of Congress nor the public have a chance to read and go through the legislation.
